Downtown President

Catherine Song

Hi MBP! I'm Catherine, and I'm excited to run for Downtown President of MBPGSA this year. Over the past two years, I've served in multiple executive roles. As Communications Rep, I kept everyone connected through weekly newsletters and social media platforms. As Downtown VP, I launched the sticker campaign and expanded options for our annual merch sale (sale is open as of now!). I'm going to bring my leadership and teamwork spirit to the President role. If elected, I'll continue building a fun, supportive community by coordinating engaging events and working closely with subcommittees. I also plan to establish channels to better support students facing financial emergencies or challenges with supervisors. I'm passionate about making MBP a place where everyone feels connected and supported. Please vote for me, and let's make this an even better year for MBP!

Tasnim Rahman

I am a suitable candidate for the MBPGSA Downtown President because I have a lot of experience working within MBPGSA, being actively involved in student groups, and valuing students’ perspectives in all steps of a process. During the 2024-2025 academic year, I served as the Communications Representative for MBPGSA. I was often collaborating and communicating with the many committee heads and other MBPGSA executives. I ran social media and was always very aware about all the different events going on within the department. I have also been involved in other student groups, being the Student Services representative for the Science Student Association at the University of Manitoba, and being the Director of Academics for my undergraduate physics student club. As Downtown President, I will always take the inputs of all the students into account and strive to make the student experience the best possible within our department.

Downtown Treasurer

Qiyun (Rachel) Shao

My journey with MBPGSA began in 2022, as a member of the Retreat Committee. This role provided a foundational understanding of our community's needs and allowed me to forge strong connections across our student body. Building on this experience, I joined the Career Development Association (CDA) in 2023 and was appointed as Co-Chair for the 2024-2025 academic year. In this role, I successfully collaborated with my team and organized seven career seminars and major departmental events, including the memorable 2025 MBP Alumni Night. This responsibility significantly enhanced my practical leadership and strategic communication skills. Hosting joint events with other GSA committees has also given me invaluable, operational insight into how our association functions. I am now eager to leverage my comprehensive experience to effectively serve and represent the entire student body as the Vice-President of MBPGSA.
